2026 Commencement Election Results at UConn Law
Name:
Affiliation: Withheld.
Location: UConn Regional Campus
Request Date Start: 03/16/2026
Request Date End: 04/09/2026
Details: Background: The University of Connecticut School of Law recently held commencement elections whereby all graduating students are sent electronic ballots and they voted on a candidate. Specifically, the CAO of the student government directed the Co-Director of Information Technology, Academic Technology Ricardo Mardales (ricardo.mardales@uconn.edu) to email all students ballots through election runner. The first election was 3/16/26 to 3/25/26, a runoff election was held on 3/30/26 to 4/1/26 and a final runoff was held on 4/6/26 to 4/8/2026.
Ask: I request that the election results of all three commencement election to be sent to me as soon as possible. Upon information and belief, these results are immediately available after the next business day after an election whereby the IT department emails the student government. I’d like these as soon as possible. While this request is primarily aimed at the IT official named above, the student and their government mentioned hereinabove should be considered a target to the extent necessary to fulfill this request.
Redaction: This site concedes the IT official is subject to FOIA rules. Likewise, the Trustee Manuel notes that student government organizations are subject to FOIA consistent with case law (and even cites the case). All of that is in play here. Consistent with 34 CFR § 99.37(b), names are “Directory information” (see Department of Education definition of what qualifies as directory information) and thus cannot be redacted.
Conclusion: I appreciate your response.
