University of Connecticut Financial Aid Department
Office of Student Financial Aid Services
Division of Student Life and Enrollment
233 Glenbrook Road Unit 4116
Storrs, CT 06269-4116

Dear Office of Student Financial Aid Services:

Under the Connecticut Freedom of Information Act § 1-200 et seq., I am requesting an opportunity to inspect or obtain copies of public records that describe financial aid rates over the last five academic years. If possible, please explain what the criteria for receiving financial aid is for. Additionally, please indicate if there is any rate of demographics receiving different amounts of financial aid.

If there are any fees for searching or copying these records, please inform me if the cost will exceed $100. However, I would also like to request a waiver of all fees in that the disclosure of the requested information is in the public interest and will contribute significantly to the public’s understanding of financial aid at the University of Connecticut. The information obtained will be used for an article for the Quinnipiac University student newspaper the ‘Quinnipiac Chronicle’. As a journalism major, I am interested in creating a story about a potential price rise for Quinnipiac’s tuition, and I would like to compare its prices and criteria compared to other Connecticut universities. This information is not being sought for commercial purposes.

The Connecticut Freedom of Information Act requires a response within four business days. If access to the records I am requesting will take longer, please contact me with information about when I might expect copies or the ability to inspect the requested records.
If you deny any or all of this request, please cite each specific exemption you feel justifies the refusal to release the information and notify me of the appeal procedures available to me under the law.

Thank you for considering my request.

Sincerely,

Daniel Welch
