FOI #25-481

2500084127

Name: Claudimarley Silva

Affiliation: Withheld.

Location: UConn Storrs

Request Date Start: Withheld.

Request Date End: Withheld.

Details: Police under Case # 2500084127.
Brief facts.
– Exact location: on the bike rack in front of the Biology/Physics building, next to the bus stop and the crosswalk heading to North Dining Hall/Bio building.
– The scooter was locked to a metal rack that we later found to be previously sawed, which likely enabled the theft. We attach photos of the rack/location and purchase/value details.
We would appreciate your support with:
1. CCTV preservation and review.
If possible, please preserve and export footage for [approx. lock time]–[discovery time] on Nov 6, 2025, covering cameras at the Biology/Physics building, the bus stop, and the crosswalk toward North Dining Hall/Bio building, plus nearby access routes. A written confirmation of preservation, camera IDs/ticket numbers, and the investigator’s contact for Case # 2500084127 would be very helpful.
2. Rack inspection and remedy.
Kindly inspect the rack shown in the photos and, if needed, repair/replace it, sharing the work-order number. If there is a protocol to check similar racks nearby, we would appreciate knowing.
3. Institutional follow-up and prevention.
If appropriate, coordination among Police, Security Technology, Facilities, and the Dean of Students for preventive measures and any community guidance would be welcome.
4. Guidance on remedying the financial loss.
Our family sustained an estimated loss of up to US$1,000. Could you please advise on the institutional process (Insurance & Risk Management) for assessment and potential reimbursement?
Additionally, we would like to understand whether, given the compromised rack integrity, there is any institutional responsibility to be reviewed, or whether the University will mainly support suspect identification and the relevant proceedings. Any guidance on formal next steps would be appreciated.
