I hope this message finds you well. My name is Rebecca Redeker, and I am an intern with The Daily Dot, an internet-based media company headquartered in Austin, Texas. I am submitting this request under the Connecticut Freedom of Information Act (C.G.S. Secs. 1-200 et seq.) for records maintained by the University of Connecticut.
I am requesting copies of any written communications, between the University of Connecticut and the following agencies regarding campus protests, or safety measures taken during or as a result of protests:
Department of Justice
U.S. Secret Service National Threat Assessment Center (NTAC)
Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR)
Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA)
The Office for State and Local Law Enforcement
Homeland Security Information Network (HSIN)
Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA)
Center for Prevention Programs and Partnerships (CP3)
National Threat Evaluation and Reporting (NTER) Program
National Suspicious Activity Reporting (SAR) Initiative (NSI)
I’m also requesting any shared documents, files, downloads, etc made or sent from those platforms to university employees.
I am also requesting this information to be searched regarding the University Police Department, President’s Office and the Department of Student Affairs.
I am specifically requesting communications from January 2024 to the present day that reference or pertain to university policies, procedures, or responses to protests, free speech, or public safety concerns.
Please let me know if I can modify this request to ensure a timely response. I request that the documents be provided in electronic form, if possible.
I am also requesting a waiver of any fees associated with this request, as the information is for the purpose of informing the public and may contribute to a potential news story for The Daily Dot. If you decline to waive fees, please inform me in advance of any associated costs.
If any part of this request cannot be fulfilled, please provide an explanation for the exemption you believe justifies the withholding of information and inform me of the appeal process.
